Author, Illustrator and Newfies... oh my!
How much fun was this?! It's not often that a writer and Illustrator get to meet each other. I have had a honor of meeting Morgan's glorious illustrator, Patricia Eubank not once... but three times now.
Patti and I meet during one of my trips to California, we were able to sit down and plan Morgan's book together. The second time her and I met was to have lunch during another trip I made to California but this time... Morgan and Patti got to meet.
The National Newfoundland Therapy Dog team, "Spirit Cove" head quarters is in Hendersonville, NC. We planned this trip for months, we would launch Spirit Cove's new location and Morgan's book at the same time. To make the trip just a bit busier, my foster dog, Teddy-Bear would be delivered to his official new handler and trainer.
I worked with Teddy "aka Ted-O", a big brown Newfie for 7 months, he has the personality, brain and heart for this work. Ian, Jacob and I packed up the mini-van and drove eight hours to NC. We stopped twice for walk breaks and straight to Spirit Cove where Teddy met Lisa, his new owner/handler/trainer. It was instant love. Driving away from Teddy was hard for our hearts but we KNOW he is going to do great things. Lisa will continue his training to be a part of the Spirit Cove therapy Dog team. (Yes, I asked for photos and updates)
Patti flew in for less then 18 hours to meet Morgan and sign books before catching her next flight to visit family. Morgan and I picked up Patti, Morgan covered her in kisses and dog fur. She didn't care one bit. Patti was so excited to finally get to meet Morgan, she had spent months looking at photos and creating images of this amazing big girl; they had to meet in person. A few therapy dogs joined our little event, Patti was in her glory surrounded by these amazing therapy Newfies and we had a great time!
