Truth be told...
I don't like being in the spotlight. Did you know that? If you know me well, you do not know this fact. I tend to be the leader of the group, the one who greets you at the gathering and I have heard people say that "Sarah has no strangers".. but I have to work at being the center of attention.
Have I gotten good at it, yes... But do I like it, NO! I actually spent years and years being invisible, hiding behind clothes too big and smiles too wide. When I was 16, I decided this stops with me. I not only got a "do-over" on my life and a new family, but I made the hard decision to take it.
At 16, I learned to ride horses. My amazing "new" family let me ride one of there horses until one day, we were blessed to be able to lease a bay horse named Finney... aka "Finest Hour". I rode him everyday after school and Saturday mornings. Twice a week, I took a lesson on him. We became a working team, I knew how to ask him for what I wanted and he knew what I needed when asked. At home we were brilliant. My trainer and amazing cousin decided I we were ready to show. OHH I was excited, I worked hard. I practiced and was ready. Did you know when you walk into a show arena, people are watching? YEAH! I didn't. I struggled and not because I was afraid of the jumps in front of me. No, No... there were actually smaller then the jumps at home. It wasn't because I worried I would forget to change leads... it was because people were watching me. It had to stop wth me.
I raised my three kids to be strong. At a young age, they were asked to get up in front of crowds and demonstrate or speak on a subject. The gave speeches for 4-H, girl scouts and FFA. They all played sports. All three showed livestock and had no fear of standing in front of 500 people to give their testimony or teach the audience. As I prepare for this weekend, and the three upcoming book promotions... I have to smile and take pride in the fact that... it stopped with me.
Come see Morgan and I this weekend, we both will autograph your books. We have many other events coming so keep an eye on this web site.
